Small Group Ministries Small group ministries provide members and friends of First Congregational Church opportunities to share common interests. For more information on any of the following groups, call the church office (801) 487-1357. Music Group The music group is a social group organized to get out and enjoy musical performances in the community. We're aiming at the underbelly of the music world -- not the big events or touring acts, but local or small venue performers. Often we'll socialize with meals before or dessert after the performance. Out & About "Out & About" consists of both couples and individuals who have made the commitment to explore new and exciting experiences through monthly activities which are chosen by the members themselves. Each and every participant in "Out & About" will have an opportunity to share their interest of choice with the rest of the group as one of the monthly activities. Our activities may include such items as concerts, plays, hiking, restaurants, community assistance activities, and day trips. The purposes for participation are many and include the conscious decision to embark on a journey together, to show support for each other as well as those outside our group, to form lifelong friendships where we can turn for support and understanding as well as to have fun. We grow as individuals through new experiences, so please come and join the "Out & About" small group ministry and discover all the incredible experiences our group members have to offer. Men's Breakfast On the first Wednesday of each month (September-May) a group of men meet
at 7:00 a.m. in the Fireside Room of the church. Members of the group
take turns with the cooking duties. There is no organized program, simply
good conversation and fellowship. All men within the membership and friends
of the First Congregational Church are invited. Hoop it up with members, friends and friends of friends in the church gym at 7pm nearly every Monday from November through March. Players' ages range from high school to the downhill side of fifty. Competition is spirited, but amicable. No one complains about getting too little exercise. We shoot for teams after each game and substitute liberally during the games, so everyone plays. Show up, or for more information call the church office. Book Group Participants select in advance a book with a religious/spiritual theme, then meets to discuss it. The group meets every six to eight weeks in the church parlor. Newcomers who haven't read the book being discussed are welcome to sit in and then help select the next book. Purchase of the books is coordinated through a local bookstore. Books the group has read include: Look on the web page calendar to see the date
of the next meeting and book selected for review. The women's social group is a way for women in the church to get to know one another better. We gather once a month for activities such as dinner, a movie, hiking, and snowshoeing. We typically have six to eight women each month. It is very low key and the women enjoy talking to each other and finding out what they have in common. The group is always open to any new ideas for a get together. Bridge Group The bridge group meets one Friday each month for a social game of bridge
in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Meeting locations revolve among
the participant's homes. Members and friends of First Congregational Church,
who enjoy the company of fellow bridge players, are invited.
